LOCO DICE - INTERVIEW

Last Friday night was a loco one. And the one before. And the one before that. I did nice tour trough Ljubljana’s favorite clubbing hot spots, from the most commercial Bachus to the pure underground of Channel Zero on Metelkova where the Urban Divas played som nice minimal shit. I’ve finished in Factory where I’ve enjoyed some pussy house presented by the Freemasons. Guys have tested their new remix of Kelly Rowland’s (Destiny’s Child) forthcoming single which is quite interesting: the breakdown goes from dance into the r&b and is quite long – but it works perfect on the dance floor.

But let’s rewind to the weekend before. It wasn’t pussy. It was a pure underground experience. Main reason for this was the premiere performance of German minimal demigod Loco Dice in Slovenia. The hosts of the event was the IntoSomething crew that operates in the Ljubljana’s infamous underground student club K4 (also the “resident” club of DJ Umek) and are well established promoters of “new minimalism” on the local scene. We’ve met with senior Loco after the evening meal at Thai restaurant and he was in good spirits, although spending quite a lot of time at the sound-check in the club.
Since I believe most of the readers know this artist and his work very well, I won’t bother you with too much biography details. He’s Tunisian living in Germany, but he spent few months in New York with his colleague and Timo Maas’ studio partner Martin Butrich in the beginning of 2007. He was caught by the muse of electronic music after being heavily involved in German hip hop scene (which BTW is a very strong and creative one), establishing his name in Ibiza under the umbrella of DC-10 but parted with the crew before the last season and focusing on his collaboration with Sven’s Cocoon.
